We had the good fortune of catching Deerhoof in Seoul. 'Twas a nice show and we had a nice chat with the guitarist and what appeared to be (but wasn't) a one-piece jumpsuit he was wearing.
If I were in town at the time I would probably be going to this thing.

Soul Steady Rockers got things hopping with reggae vibes at 500 last Saturday.
There were many other acts and a fire dance, too. To think, not too long ago I thought there wasn't much live music in Seoul.
500 is a unique venue. (Expect to take off your shoes. And patchouli.)
We went to the GoGo Star gig at the Sangsang Madang Live Music Hall. We actually missed all five openers and almost didn't catch the main act!
What we did catch was a young Korean crowd jumping around to some dancey, disco-not-disco rock. Big, sweaty, loud fun. The band has a great look too.
I hope they play Pentaport.

In short: dark basement, energetic acoustic guitar, purple poncho (!), an actual Korean hippie going buckwild (!!), a fine evening.
I've started visiting The Korea Herald and came across the Pentaport Rock Festival.
This annual festival has featured Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Strokes, The Chemical Brothers, Tricky, Underworld and many other acts I'm not hip enough to know. It is also held right in my future city, Incheon, most likely because it is industrial enough to provide a sizable expanse of concrete as a venue.
Hey, maybe next year they'll have, like, Fatboy Slim...
